In Plainfield, Theo’s Italian, a new concept from the Cunningham Restaurant Group, has opened in The Shops at Perry Crossing, replacing the former Stone Creek restaurant. Theo’s will serve pizza, pasta, salads and sandwiches.
In Indy’s Fountain Square neighborhood, look for a new concept in the former BrewDog location on Shelby Street; the folks at Loco restaurant group will be opening there and also in the Cummins building downtown.
Also in Fountain Square, Black House Cafe, a spooky horror-themed coffee shop will be opening in a little building on Shelby Street.
And in brewery news, Four Day Ray in Fishers has announced a new taproom that will be opening in Yorktown.
Chilly Water Brewing, which has its original location in Fletcher Place in Indianapolis and a taproom in Indy’s Butler-Tarkington neighborhood, just opened a Southside location in Center Grove at 1480 Olive Branch Parke Lane.

Indy student chefs win big at the World Food Championships

Two Indiana middle school students took first place in a new junior division at the World Food Championships in Dallas.

Paramount Schools of Excellence student chef Tony Fernandez, aided by sous chef Tiffany Smith, both 14, won first place and $2,500 Nov. 8 at the competition that included 12 middle and high school teams from Dallas and Indianapolis.

Paramount CEO Tommy Reddicks launched a Junior Chef Academy program this past year that aimed to address food insecurity among student families by teaching cooking skills. Student chefs in the program, taught by local chef Ross Katz, competed during the school’s TURN Festival in September, and the top-scoring teams earned golden tickets to the World Food Championships.
